Etsy Fee and Profit Calculator
Independent planning estimate for the United States seller / US bank account. Inputs stay in your browser. Confirm live charges in your Etsy Payment account before pricing.
Etsy revenue is not the same as Etsy profit. A buyer may pay for the item, delivery, gift wrapping, personalization, and tax, while Etsy deducts several fees with different calculation bases. You still have to pay for production, packaging, postage, labor, refunds, and the other costs of fulfilling the order.
This calculator separates those layers. Select the location of the seller's bank account, not the buyer's country, because Etsy Payments rates are location-based. Then enter the order revenue, billable listing units, optional advertising scenario, and the costs that belong to the order.
How to use the Etsy fee calculator
- Choose United States or United Kingdom according to the seller's bank-account location.
- Enter item revenue, delivery charged to the buyer, gift wrap or paid personalization, and any tax requested by the calculator.
- Select no Offsite Ads fee, 15%, or 12% according to the order scenario shown in your Etsy dashboard.
- Add production, fulfillment, and other order costs to see estimated profit rather than marketplace payout alone.
Use billable listing units instead of assuming one listing fee per order. A multi-quantity sale can renew a listing more than once. Etsy charges its $0.20 USD listing fee when an item is listed or renewed, and listings normally expire after four months.

Etsy fees for US sellers
Etsy's transaction fee is 6.5% of the displayed item price plus delivery and gift wrapping. For US sellers, Etsy states that this transaction fee does not apply to sales tax. Etsy Payments is separate: for a US bank account, the current rate is 3% of the gross order amount plus $0.25, and the processing base includes delivery and applicable tax.
This distinction matters when tax is present: the transaction and payment-processing bases may not match. Keep marketplace-collected tax separate from spendable revenue so the calculator does not mistake money remitted to a tax authority for seller income.
Etsy fees for UK sellers
Sellers with a UK bank account currently pay 4% plus £0.20 for Etsy Payments, in addition to the 6.5% transaction fee. Etsy also lists a 0.48% Regulatory Operating Fee for UK sellers. That regulatory fee applies to the item price plus delivery, gift wrap, and applicable paid personalization.
The listing fee is still denominated as $0.20 USD and is converted when reflected in the payment account, so its exact sterling value can move with exchange rates. Etsy also applies a 2.5% currency-conversion fee when a seller lists in a currency different from the payment-account currency.
VAT on seller fees needs separate attention. Etsy says VAT may be charged depending on business status, location, and whether a VAT ID has been submitted. Use the VAT amount or rate shown on your Etsy invoice rather than assuming that every UK shop receives identical treatment. See Etsy's official guide to VAT on seller fees.
When the 15% or 12% Offsite Ads fee applies
Offsite Ads are conditional, not a fee on every order. Etsy says a shop below $10,000 USD in Etsy sales over the relevant 365-day period pays 15% on an attributed order and may be eligible to opt out. After reaching at least $10,000, the rate becomes 12% and participation is required under Etsy's policy. The fee is capped at $100 USD for one attributed order.
Run at least two scenarios when pricing: no Offsite Ads and the rate shown in the shop dashboard. That reveals whether an advertised order remains profitable without pretending every future sale has the same acquisition cost. Source: How Etsy's Offsite Ads work.
From Etsy payout to true order profit
Production can include material, machine time, consumables, hands-on labor, and an allowance for failed or rejected work. Fulfillment can include packaging, postage, insurance, and handling. Buyer-paid delivery is revenue; the label purchased from the carrier is a cost. They do not cancel each other automatically.
Profit margin divides profit by revenue, while markup compares profit with cost. If those terms are easy to mix up, read markup vs. margin for maker products. Sellers of printed products can continue with the narrower Etsy 3D print profit guide, which adds material, printer, labor, and failure-risk considerations.

Two quick fee examples
US order with no Offsite Ads
For a $30 item with $5 delivery, no tax, and one billable listing unit, the simplified transaction fee is $2.275, payment processing is $1.30, and the listing fee is $0.20. Total modeled Etsy fees are about $3.78 before advertising, currency conversion, refunds, or optional services. The calculator retains full precision before displaying rounded currency.
UK order before VAT on seller fees
For a £30 item with £5 delivery, the 6.5% transaction fee is £2.275, payment processing is £1.60, and the 0.48% regulatory fee is £0.168. The sterling value of the $0.20 listing fee and any VAT on seller fees must still be added. That is why a UK estimate should not simply copy a US percentage.
Costs and events the calculator cannot predict
Etsy Ads budgets, shipping-label adjustments, refunds, chargebacks, payment reserves, deposit or bank charges, optional subscriptions, shop set-up fees, customs, and income tax can change the final result. Record actual statement data and compare it with the estimate. Repeated differences are a reason to update an input, not to force the statement to match the model.

Etsy fee calculator FAQ
How much does Etsy take from one sale?
There is no single percentage for every order. A typical sale can combine a listing or renewal charge, the 6.5% transaction fee, a country-specific Etsy Payments charge, and conditional fees such as Offsite Ads, currency conversion, seller-fee tax, or the UK Regulatory Operating Fee. Use the calculator with the seller's bank location and actual order values.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Buyer-paid shipping is included in the transaction-fee base, and Etsy Payments processing also applies to the gross payment including shipping. Free shipping does not remove the seller's carrier cost; it moves that cost into the product price.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
The answer depends on the fee and jurisdiction. For US sellers, Etsy says sales tax is excluded from the transaction and Offsite Ads fee bases, while applicable tax can be included in the payment-processing base. Seller-responsible VAT included in a UK listing price is already part of that displayed revenue.
Is the listing fee charged for every quantity sold?
Etsy charges $0.20 USD to create or renew a listing. Multi-quantity sales can generate additional sold-quantity or auto-renew listing charges. Enter the billable units shown in the Payment account instead of assuming every order creates exactly one listing fee.
What is Etsy's UK Regulatory Operating Fee?
Etsy currently lists a 0.48% Regulatory Operating Fee for UK sellers. It is calculated on item price plus buyer-paid shipping, gift wrap, and applicable personalization, and it may itself be subject to VAT where applicable.
